Where Is Kronborg Castle?
Kronborg is located in Helsingør, approximately 45 kilometres north of Copenhagen. The journey by private car takes around 45 minutes, following the motorway north before joining the scenic coastal road through Rungsted, Kokkedal and Humlebæk — the Danish Riviera.
What to See at Kronborg
The Great Hall
62 metres long, 12 metres wide — once the largest Renaissance hall in Northern Europe. Even partly restored, the scale is breathtaking.
The Casemates
The castle’s underground vaulted brick passages. Somewhere in the depths, Holger Danske sleeps — ready to wake when Denmark faces its greatest peril. His statue is one of Kronborg’s most visited sights.
The Chapel
Survived the great fire of 1629 with original Renaissance fittings intact — carved oak pews, an ornate altarpiece and the atmosphere of centuries.
The Ramparts
Wide, well-maintained external ramparts with views over Helsingør, the Øresund strait and the Swedish coast just 4 kilometres away.
